A Christmas to Remember

How can I be part of a child's Christmas to remember?

As you think about your favorite childhood Christmas memory, consider this:


What do you think the boys and girls who were sexually and physically abused at Niños de Mexico going to remember about this Christmas?


In the final 256-page G.R.A.C.E. report made public three weeks ago, it:


  • describes sexual abuse of fifty-four (54) specific cases along with additional cases of “other boys” and “other girls”;


  • describes physical abuse of thirteen (13) specific cases with additional cases of “multiple children”, “multiple girls” and “other boys”;


  • reveals that interviewers talked to eighty-two (82) sexual and physical abuse victims; and


  • reveals that interviewers talked with witnesses about eighty-three (83) alleged sexual and physical abuse victims.


Consider this:


Sixty-seven specific cases (67) were published in the report out of a total of one-hundred and sixty-five (165) cases (The specific details are recorded in the final report. Link is at the bottom of this post).


These minors—now young adults—had their childhood memories destroyed.


Is there anything I can do?


The G.R.A.C.E. report highly recommends that the organization (Niños de Mexico) set up a Victim-Survivor Restitution and Care Fund:


“As an act of repentance and to provide tangible support for those harmed, Niños de México must establish a substantial restitution fund. This fund must be legally separate from the organization and administered by an independent third party, with a governing board that includes victim-survivor representation. The fund must provide accessible, non-adversarial funding for counseling, medical care, education, and other long-term care needs for all victim-survivors of abuse at its facilities. This is not a matter of charity, but of justice, a recognition of the harm the organization is responsible for both causing and failing to address, and a tangible demonstration of remorse."


"When Zacchaeus repented for his sins, he gave half of his possessions to the poor and paid back four times the amount of money he had cheated his victims out of (Luke 19:1-9). In this case, Niños de México cannot give the reporting victims back their childhoods or restore to them what was taken from them, but they can take ownership for the harm the organization caused.” (page 254)


FOR EVERYONE WHO EVER SUPPORTED NIÑOS DE MÉXICO—WITH MONEY AND TIME—WRITE TO THE SUPPORTING CHURCH BOARDS (partial list below) AND TO THE NIÑOS DE MÉXICO BOARD (partial list below), PETITIONING THEM FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THIS RECOMMENDATION OF A VICTIM-SURVIVOR RESTITUTION AND CARE FUND.


This could be a part of bringing justice to these victims--a Christmas to remember.
